Cinco de Mayo

Today is Cinco de Mayo translated in english as the 5th of May is day celebrated in Mexico but it is also celebrated in the United States in a larger scale by Chicanos in U.S. The holiday celebrates the courage of the Mexican people during La Batalla de Puebla (The Battle of Puebla) on May 5, 1862. The "Batalla de Puebla" later became a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. While there 4,500 Mexican soldiers under the command of General Ignacio Zaragosa defeated the 6,500 Mexican traitors and French Army at Puebla, Mexico.  The "Batalla de Puebla" later became a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. Cinco de Mayo may be celebrated on a larger scale maybe because Chicanos celebrate this day in appreciation of its cultural and historical siginificance and Chicano hero, General Ignacio Zargosa was in Texas when it was still part of Mexico.
